Here at Neil Rayment, Neil feels it is important to encourage young talent, especially as he was once an apprentice himself. So once the chance rolled around for our third year apprentice Nicole to enter the Fine Jewellery Making competition run by WorldSkillsUK, she jumped at the chance to enter this great opportunity.
Nicole then got invited to the first stage in London, where as one of 20 people picked for this stage she had to create a design in a day, this was then judged, and eventually she got an email confirming that she was one of 8 people to get through to the UK final to be held in Birmingham.
The finals were held in the NEC Birmingham over 3 days. Again Nicole was given a set of specifications from which she had to hand craft a piece of silver jewellery.
This was the final piece she created using traditional silversmith techniques. Nicole hopes to be able to return next year to compete again and hopefully bring home a medal.
