When Guy decided to propose to his girlfriend Sophie, getting married was just the beginning of his ideas. Inspired by seeing his mum’s rings, engagement rings that his friends had bought their future wives, and his own research, he knew the look he wanted to achieve for Sophie’s ring. He also knew he wanted something more personal than buying ready-made from the high street. With strong Welsh family connections, he wanted to work with a local maker to achieve a tailor-made engagement ring imbued with heritage and meaning. Based in historical and glittering Cardiff Bay, Neil Rayment Jewellery was a perfect fit. When Guy called to explain his ideas, he was invited to the studio for a consultation.
Guy hoped to use his own gem as part of his design. Neil Rayment Jewellery is happy to accommodate customers providing their own stones, on the understanding that the gems themselves are not included in the item’s lifetime guarantee. Guy brought in a diamond that was a family heirloom, along with saved images on his phone from high-end jewellers that had inspired him. Neil and Guy discussed the look he wanted along with materials, budget, and also future wedding bands – the big day itself would be a way off, but thinking ahead ensures engagement and wedding rings will fit together in terms of shape and style. Thirty minutes of discussion, Welsh cakes, and coffee later, and Guy was on his way, his design ideas shared and his master maker Neil ready to create a cutting edge, 3D preview image of his ring using CAD technology.
Not every hopeful groom-to-be is as sure of design requirements as Guy. This doesn’t have to be a problem. When you discuss a custom-made jewellery item with Neil, he is always happy to guide and offer suggestions, but if you’d prefer to plan with your partner there too, we have the perfect solution. Proposal Cards allow you to pop the question in a special way, but instead of handing over a ring that you’re uncertain they’ll like, you can hand across the promise of a tailor-made design with Neil Rayment Jewellery. You can even book that first consultation in advance, to add to the excitement and anticipation.
His 3D CAD preview was so good that Guy didn’t need to see a wax model of his ring, and asked Neil to carry on to the finished piece without any changes to the design. At this stage, Guy left his gem at the studio, which is fully secure and insured for doing so.
A total of six weeks after the initial appointment, master maker Neil had finished the beautiful engagement ring, with the 1.5 Carat diamond mounted to amazing effect. Boxed in beautiful branded packaging, it was waiting along with freshly brewed coffee when Guy arrived to see the realisation of his ideas. He was absolutely delighted! By working with Neil Rayment Jewellery, he’d achieved a beautiful one-off engagement ring, which had been created to match his personal specifications and desires.
Master maker Neil is a romantic, and having experienced his own wedding planning with his wife Ceri, he enjoys hearing the details of his clients’ weddings, and most importantly – when a partner has said, “Yes!” In this case, Guy emailed Neil to share that Sophie had not only accepted, she loved her custom made ring.
One year after the proposal, Sophie accompanied Guy to the Neil Rayment Jewellery studio in Cardiff Bay – wedding day planning was well underway! They discussed their wedding rings with Neil over coffee - covering style, materials and budget. The bride and groom-to-be opted for Neil’s complementary inscription service by adding their wedding date to the inside of the bands. There’s no excuse for forgetting an anniversary when it’s with you in writing every day!
Neil Rayment Jewellery can also create exquisite wedding gifts to suit your occasion, whether for bridesmaids, mums or the men of the family. Sophie and Guy decided upon cufflink gifts for their best men, and lapel pins for the dads and soon to be dads-in-law.
